Community Apprenticeship Scheme

The National Skills Academy for Nuclear from 2007 to 2011 led a Community Apprenticeship Scheme (CAS), funded by the NDA, to enable supply chain companies working in the nuclear sector (civil and defence) to access additional funding to take on Apprentices for the first time or to grow additional Apprentice skills for their business.  From the start of the service the target was to inject an additional 75 apprentices into the supply chain, the scheme is now supporting 125.

The injection of additional apprentices into the nuclear sector has enabled supply chain employers to provide a continued and better resource capability to support the Nuclear Site Licence companies to achieve the delivery objectives safely to time and cost.

The Community Apprenticeship funding has now been fully allocated to support the 125 apprentices and we need new sponsors for a cohort in 2012.  New sponsorship funding will be used to create the SCAN Supply Chain Apprenticeship Nuclear programme to provide new opportunities for SME supply chain employers to take on additional apprentices and to provide bursary support for nuclear specific training.
