Module 6 Nuclear Principles Protections & Frameworks

 Module Overview

This unit addresses the knowledge required to to exercise judgement and take responsibility for others working in a nuclear environment. It covers the concepts and principles associated with atomic structure, ionising radiation, the detection of ionising radiation and management of hazards.  The principles of nuclear power generation will be covered and the legal and regulatory frameworks the student  will work in.

The module comprises 4 units, all of which are mandatory

Course Content

  1. Know and understand the structure of the Atom
  2. Know and understand the principles of  Ionising Radiation & Contamination
  3. Know and understand the protection systems in place for  safe working in a  Radiation & Contamination area

Assessment

Outcomes will be assessed by one of the following mechanisms;

  • written examination
  • structured interview to assess how behaviours have been embedded by the learner
  • work based case study from the candidates own role in the organisation
