module 5 Project Management

 Module Overview

This unit provides an individual with an awareness of the tools and techniques used in project management and how these generic concepts are applied in a nuclear context through case studies applicable to the sector.

The main outcomes are that an individual will;-

  1. Understand the importance of requirements capture, management and acceptance criteria.
  2. Awareness of the ‘nuclear’ stakeholders and their role in agreeing acceptance criteria with their different levels of involvement at various project stages; the importance of stakeholder management  to realise successful outcomes at each stage of the project life cycle in delivery of nuclear projects
  3. Understand the different roles involved in delivering nuclear projects including regulatory and technical governance.
  4. Understand the potential threat and significance of scope creep and importance of change control in the delivery of nuclear projects.
  5. Understand the critical drivers in cost, time and quality and the significance of how the requirement to deliver robust safety cases influence this relationship.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of Quality assurance management systems applicable to the delivery of project delivery and how this supports decision making in an organisation.
  7. Understand the importance of producing PMPs that define the key roles and processes that lead to successful delivery including resource identification, procurement and management.
  8. Understand the importance of including stage gates and independent reviews in scheduling technical solutions and cost estimates.
  9. Understand the importance of independence in the delivery of nuclear work, that the technical decisions may have different drivers independent of the project.
  10. Understand the risk processes involved in the delivery of nuclear work and the PM techniques required to support.

 The module comprises 4 units, all of which are mandatory

 

Assessment

Outcomes will be assessed by one of the following mechanisms

  • written examination
  • structured interview to assess how behaviours have been embedded by the learner
  • work based case study from the candidates own role in the organisation
