Module 2 Technical Leadership

This unit addresses the knowledge and demonstrated capability required to lead projects and work scopes in an nuclear environment such that appropriate descision making can be validated and that the organsation maintains a strong nuclear safety culture in light of any challenges that may be presented in a challenging environment.
The main outcomes are that an individual will;-
- Understand the importance of requirements capture and requirements management, a need to have acceptance criteria agreed on implementation and managed throughout implementation.
- Stakeholder management – be able to demonstrate ability to identify stakeholders and the importance of keeping them all involved at all stages of the project and the different information that they each need and the methods used to support their active involvement.
- Be able to demonstrate how potential change is identified, assessed, agreed or rejected. How this is subsequently managed during implementation through technical governance and documentation of the process.
- Configuration Management – be able to show how the auditable trail from initial expressed need through to end of life is captured in real time.
- Be able to demonstrate how a robust safety case is delivered – demonstration of the ‘story’ of what the safety case delivers and the maintenance of the design intent throughout the whole project.
- Simplify technical messages, keep technical delivery simple, easy to explain and easy to understand
- Demonstrate the ability to defend the robust safety case using fact, analysis and relative assessment when challenged including the demonstration of ALARP principles in action, for nuclear and non-nuclear aspects.
- Demonstrate the recognition of one’s own limitations, openness to use the appropriate support, and task ownership, no abdication of relevant accountability or responsibility, maintain key interfaces and use the appropriate expertise.
- Be able to demonstrate their recognition of the need to plan the whole solution through to the end state, before starting the next phase.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the leadership abilities required to determine and manage technical input and understand the SQEP or competence status of a technical delivery team, including the leader
The module comprises 5 units, all of which are mandatoryAssessment
