Community Apprenticeship Scheme
Vision
The National Skills Academy for Nuclear is leading a Community Apprenticeship Scheme
(CAS) to enable supply chain companies working in the nuclear sector (civil and defence) to access additional funding to take on Apprentices for the first time or to grow additional Apprentice skills for their business.
The injection of additional apprentices into the nuclear sector will enable supply chain
employers to provide a continued and better resource capability to support the Nuclear Site Licence companies to achieve the delivery objectives safely to time and cost.
Description
The CAS started in 2008 and is supporting 37 apprentices benefiting 21 supply chain
companies. The CAS is available across five regional areas (Northwest/Northeast, Southeast/East, Southwest, Scotland and Wales) and provides funding direct to the employer to help cover Apprentice wage costs over the period of the Apprenticeship.
The scheme has been designed to ensure minimal bureaucracy to make this a realistic opportunity for Small and Medium Employers (SME's) in the supply chain for nuclear.
The Comunty Apprenticeship Scheme can be used for apprenticeship frameworks that deliver the skills required for working in the nuclear sector including Design, IT, Administration as well as the more traditional Engineering (including Fabrication/Welding, Maintenance, Electrical, Electronics, and Instrumentation & Controls), Laboratory Technician and new emerging frameworks such as Decommissioning and Radiation Protection.
If your company is interested in growing skills and capability for the future, the Skills
Academy would like to offer you this opportunity by taking on an Apprentice through the Skills Academy's network of quality assured Training Providers for Apprenticeships starting in 2009.
To be eligible to apply for a CAS funding contribution your organisation will need to
become an associate member of the Skills Academy. By becoming an associate member of the Skills Academy your organisation will have the opportunity to inform and influence the direction of the Skills Academy in your region, and access to
the products and services.
