In support of the Higher Education aspects of the Nuclear Skills Passport the National Skills Academy for Nuclear has recently endorsed two courses offered by the Systems Engineering and Human Factors Department at Cranfield University.
A 2-Day course ‘Executive Overview of System Engineering’ is aimed at Executives and Managers in research and development, operational, logistics or infrastructure provision roles to give them the broad overview of all aspects which underpin good technical decision making in technically complex subject areas. A broad range of functions in engineering, commercial and human resources all can benefit. A longer 5-Day course “Systems Engineering for the Nuclear Industry” takes those foundation aspects and builds on them for Systems Engineering Practitioners to give them a good understanding of the System Engineering questions and methods that can be employed in complex and safety critical applications where risk must be carefully managed.
These courses build on Cranfield University’s experience with a broad range of industrial sectors in which active engagement of Industrial Advisory Panels has been sought in quality management and course development. A result has been the widespread use of the University's research environment and links with industry to enhance the quality of learning opportunities.
CPD course content uses material originally prepared for presentation within MSc level courses although it is tailored in the details of examples or activities for particular customer needs.
Cranfield’s Systems Engineering CPD courses have been delivered to several major companies including those in the defence nuclear industry. The courses reflect the importance placed by the University to dealing with the wider range of issues around success for major projects exemplified by a mutually supportive approach to “Process, Systems Understanding, Organisation and People”. These aspects complement the technological details relevant to design, installation and operation.
With Skills Academy HE Endorsement Cranfield University Department of Systems Engineering and Human Factors looks forward to expanding its engagement with the nuclear sector.
