What is the Model?
The Skills Academy is structured around the five main areas of Nuclear activity across the UK (Northwest/Northeast, Southeast/East, Southwest, Scotland and Wales), a Regional Training Cluster (RTC) has been established in each of these regions.
The Skills Academy is building upon existing good provision in the regions and is working with providers to raise the standards and ensure they are responding to employer demand. The Skills Academy works via a variety of models: for example, existing training centres, FE Colleges, Universities, on employer sites, new purpose built facilities and so on – the physical presence is dependant on what is needed for each region.
Governance
The Skills Academy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cogent Sector Skills Council and is governed by an employer led Board of nominated Member Organisation representatives.
To ensure that the specific regional issues are investigated and solutions developed, Regional Steering Groups have been established. The Regional steering groups consist of employer representatives from Member organisations. The Regional Steering Groups are as follows;
- Scotland: Chair - Michael Dunnett, DSRL
- Southeast/East: Chair - Pat Upson, Enritec
- Southwest: Chair - Mandy Walker, Magnox South
- Wales: Chair - John Idris Jones, Magnox North
- Northwest/Northeast: Chair – Adrian Bull, Westinghouse
