REGIONS

The nuclear sector is focussed in five main areas of the UK:

1Southwest
2Southeast (inc. East of England)
3Northwest (inc. Northeast)
4Scotland
5Wales

The Skills Academy is structured around these 5 key areas, with a strong Regional Training Cluster (RTC) developed in each of these regions. Where possible, the Academy is building on existing good provision in the region and is working with current providers to raise standards and ensure they are responding to employer demand. New facilities are being developed where employers articulate a demand for a new physical aspect of the Academy and contribute financially to its development.

MAP OF REGIONS

Head Office: Cockermouth, West Cumbria.

Southwest: Development of an Energy Centre at Bridgwater College to act as an Academy Hub that will encourage development and delivery of quality training by other Academy assured providers in the Southwest RTC.

Southeast: This RTC will be a virtual arrangement linking together all Academy assured provision..

Northwest: In West Cumbria due to the significance and size of the nuclear industry employers and the public sector have come together to fund the Nuclear Academy Northwest. This is being built at Lillyhall and will be a world class centre of excellence for the delivery of nuclear training and skills development.

The Westinghouse Springfields Apprenticeship training centre will be a key delivery centre for this area, it is already an excellent centre but needs some modernising and new equipment to deliver to Academy standards.  Hub to be located at Daresbury.

Scotland: Employers and partners are currently undertaking a review of needs and provision in Scotland with an aim of clarifying the way forwards in the summer. There may be a need for a new facility to be developed.

Wales: The Academy Hub in Wales will be a virtual centre linking together all Academy assured provision.
